About the Competition

Glass Cutting World Cup

The world’s premier glass cutting competition — an event that sets the industry standards and bridges the gap between tradition and modern design. Since 2015, professional glass cutters, students from specialized glassmaking schools, and representatives from design studios worldwide have gathered annually to showcase their skills.

This year, the 11th edition moves to the Rückl glassworks in Nižbor for the very first time, and for the first time, it opens its gates to the public. This move creates a unique connection between two iconic pillars of Czech glassmaking tradition – Světlá nad Sázavou and Nižbor.

OPEN Competition for the Public

Try your hand at the master cutter’s craft

On Sunday, June 7th, we have prepared a unique glass-cutting competition for the public. Every participant will receive the same semi-finished piece — a clear glass — along with a technical drawing of a motif, which they will then cut onto the glass. The best works will win valuable prizes and will be featured in an exhibition in Lány.

No previous experience is required – all you need is a desire to create and experience the unique atmosphere. Try the craft of a master cutter under real competition conditions and see how you measure up against other enthusiasts.

On-site, you will receive both the glass and the technical drawing to guide you through the cutting process. The results will be announced in the afternoon during a festive award ceremony.
